Mercy Me’s “Even If”

Even If comes from their latest album Lifer.

The lyric “I know you can save through the fire” reminds me of Daniel’s friends Shadrach, Meschach, and Abednego in Daniel 3:16-18 who say, “if we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and He will rescue us from your hand…but even if He does not…we want you to know…we will not serve your gods”.  Bart Millard, lead singer, refers to this event in an interview called “Heart Behind Even If” found on their website here:

God does save them through the fire. In Daniel 3:24 and following we read that King Nebuchadnezzar himself saw a fourth person in the fire who “looks like the son of a god”.  When they came out of the fire they, their hair and clothing were not singed nor did they even smell of smoke!  The Bible is full of stories like this & stories where people lost this life but gained the next.

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.  And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

it only takes a little faith to move a mountain “if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, “move from here to there’ and it will move.  Nothing will be impossible for you.”

“if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.”

Matthew 17:20

Luke 17:6

it is well with my soul God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. Psalm 46:1-3
